Your data, explained clearly.
Effective 13 July 2026. This policy applies to the Dog Meetup Ireland website, web service, and iOS app for adult dog owners in the Republic of Ireland.
Who controls your data
Dog Meetup Ireland determines why and how personal data is processed for the Dog Meetup service and acts as the data controller. Privacy requests, complaints, and questions can be sent to dev@prints3d.org.
Data we process
Location
Device location permission is optional. On iPhone, it may be used to sort Republic of Ireland parks near the device. You can deny permission and choose a park manually. Dog Meetup stores the park you select for matching; it does not intentionally store a continuous GPS trail or your home address for routine discovery. The website does not request browser location or load a live Google map.
Why we process data
- Contract and requested service
Create and manage accounts, provide profiles, discovery, messages, meetups, exports, and support. - Legitimate interests
Protect users and dogs, prevent fraud and abuse, secure the service, diagnose faults, keep proportionate audit records, and improve reliability. We consider the impact on user rights before relying on this basis. - Consent
Optional location access, optional website analytics, optional push notifications, and other choices where the interface asks permission. Consent can be withdrawn through device, browser, or account settings. - Legal obligations and legal claims
Respond to valid authority requests, document data-rights handling, preserve narrowly required evidence, and assess personal-data breach duties. - Vital interests
In exceptional circumstances, process or disclose minimum necessary information where this is needed to protect a person's life or physical safety and the law permits it.
Who receives data
Access is limited to authorised Dog Meetup personnel who need it for support, moderation, privacy, security, or service operation. Service providers may process limited data for hosting, email delivery, push delivery, app distribution, and identity verification. Depending on the feature selected, these may include Apple, Google, Expo, and the configured email-delivery provider. Competent authorities or advisers receive data only where a valid legal basis applies. Dog Meetup does not sell personal data and does not share it for behavioural advertising.
International transfers
Some platform or service providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where Dog Meetup is responsible for such a transfer, it must use an applicable adequacy decision, approved contractual safeguards, or another lawful transfer mechanism and assess supplementary protections where required. Apple or Google may also process data under their own notices when you choose their sign-in or platform services.
Recommendations and moderation
Discovery ordering uses practical profile signals such as selected park and dog characteristics. Automated content rules may reject or flag messages or profile text associated with abuse, scams, sexual exploitation, threats, or unsafe conduct. These tools support moderation; they do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects without human review. Users can ask for a moderation decision to be reviewed by emailing dev@prints3d.org.
Security and session storage
- Network traffic is protected with HTTPS/TLS on the production service.
- Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, not readable passwords.
- Browser sign-in uses a Secure, HttpOnly, SameSite=Strict, host-bound session cookie; bearer tokens are not placed in browser local storage.
- The iOS app stores its session credential using the operating system's secure-storage interface.
- Verification and password-reset tokens are time-limited and stored as hashes on the server.
- Sensitive administrator actions and reads are recorded for accountability.
No internet service can guarantee absolute security. See the security page for responsible disclosure.
Retention and deletion
Account data is normally kept while the account is active. Email-verification links expire after 24 hours and password-reset links after one hour. Production database backups are designed to be encrypted and rotated after 30 days. Closed request, audit, moderation, safety, and incident records are kept only for the documented period needed for security, accountability, legal obligations, or legal claims, and are subject to periodic review. Open investigations and valid legal holds may require longer retention. The detailed schedule is in the Data Retention Policy.
Your rights
Subject to the conditions in data-protection law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent without affecting processing already carried out lawfully. Requests are normally answered within one month; a reasonable identity check may be required. Use signed-in account controls or email dev@prints3d.org.
Complaints and policy changes
Please contact Dog Meetup first so the issue can be investigated. You also have the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie. Material policy changes are dated here and may be shown in the app or sent by service email. Where fresh consent or acceptance is legally required, Dog Meetup will request it before the affected processing continues.
